Better hearing is a journey, not a simple overnight change.
The same way it may take a couple weeks to get used to a new eye-glasses prescription, there is a period where your ears take some time to adapt to new sounds during the first 4 weeks.
When you begin using hearing aids, you’ll start to hear clear sounds again, but your brain will need time to adjust.
This period of practice will help you re-learn how to focus and filter sounds. Initially, some noises might surprise or shock you, but rest assured, your brain will gradually get used to them.
We are here to guide you along the way on your journey to better hearing. Following industry best practices, here are a few ways to elevate your hearing journey.
Week 1: Patience Is Key
Congratulations on starting your hearing journey with your Ceretone hearing aids. Now that you have unboxed your device, it is now time to ease your way into comfort.
For the first week, we recommend you wear your hearing aids for 1 - 2 hours daily.
The first week may be the most challenging due to your ears and brain adapting to new sounds that were recently not heard. By easing into your hearing aids, you’ll help your auditory system adapt more comfortably.
To adapt to your new hearing the first week, environments where you are most familiar are recommended to start. Focus on listening and familiarizing yourself with various sounds from the comfort of your home.
You can use your hearing aids to watch tv, talk to loved ones, hearing sounds within your home that you have control of.
Week 2: Practice Listening
Now that your auditory system has gotten a glimpse of your new hearing, you are now ready to expand your wear time to 3-4 hours per day.
You can now start visiting quiet public places, such as a park or a café, where you can experience a range of gentle sounds. Interact with others in these settings to observe how your hearing aids amplify conversations and background noise. Pay close attention to how different environments impact your hearing experience.
This gradual increase in wear time will help you adjust to various sound levels and improve your ability to enjoy the full spectrum of sounds in your daily life.
Embracing this process will enhance your overall hearing journey and help you adapt more smoothly to your new hearing aids.
Week 3: Practice Makes Perfect
As you continue to make progress with your hearing aids, aim to wear them for around 4-5 hours each day. This extended wear time will help you adapt to your enhanced hearing.
Challenge yourself by spending time in noisier environments, such as busy streets or restaurants. These settings will provide a variety of sound stimuli, allowing you to practice distinguishing between different noises and conversations.
Engage in conversations with friends or loved ones to craft your ability to focus on specific sounds and understand speech with slightly higher background noise. This continued practice will enhance your hearing aids' effectiveness and help you get better at handling different sound environments.
By gradually increasing your wear time and immersing yourself in different sound environments, you'll further refine your hearing skills and enjoy a better sound experience.
Week 4: Live it Up!
It’s time for the full experience of completely embracing your hearing aids in your daily routine. Aim to wear your hearing aids for over 6 hours a day to experience your new life of enhanced hearing in a variety of environments.
Even with an increase in wear time, it is always important to take occasional breaks to prevent ear fatigue. Just as with any adjustment, short periods of rest will make sure your experience with hearing aids remains at your level of preferred comfort.
By integrating your hearing aids into your everyday routine, you enhance your ability to connect with and enjoy the world in a more meaningful and clear way.
Your Everyday Hearing Companion
By the end of this 4-week journey, you’ll have gained the confidence to embrace your enhanced hearing in every area of your life. With practice, patience, and a greater increase in wear time, Ceretone hearing aids will become a natural extension of your daily routine.
Remember, better hearing is a process, and we’re here to support you every step of the way.
